Exploring the Bold, Expressive Art of Jorge Galindo

Nordic Knots

This fall, we are honored to welcome Jorge Galindo, courtesy of Nino Mier Gallery, as our second artist in residence at our New York flagship. Art has long served as a profound source of inspiration for Nordic Knots - from the boundless creativity and colors to the form and materials. The opening of our New York flagship provided a unique opportunity to showcase artists who inspire us.

Galindo stands among the most distinguished Spanish painters of his generation. His journey in the arts began with training under the renowned Julian Schnabel at Madrid’s Círculo de Bellas Artes, where he initially explored collage and photomontage before evolving his signature painterly style. Galindo’s large canvases are unmistakable for their dynamic aesthetics, characterized by bold brushstrokes, splatters, and layers that create a mesmerizing, frenetic energy.

Central to Galindo’s work is his recurring motif of flowers, portrayed in a way that’s both intensely beautiful and intriguingly distorted. This approach stems from his fascination with the power of surreal floral depictions. His works are designed to captivate not just visually but physically, turning familiar images, like roses, into dreamlike visions that invite engagement on a visceral level.

Based in Toledo, Spain, Galindo has gained international acclaim. His works have been featured in esteemed institutions such as Berlin’s Hamburger Bahnhof, the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C., the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, and the Hammer Museum of Art in Los Angeles. His pieces are held in significant collections, including the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, the Museo Helga de Alvear in Cáceres, and the ING Belgium Collection, cementing his status as a leading figure in contemporary Spanish art.

Galindo’s artistic journey continues to push boundaries, blending boldness and nuance in ways that redefine the very essence of the painted canvas.
