Seasonal Shift: Rethinking the Bedroom for the months ahead

As the days grow shorter and the light begins to soften, the bedroom becomes a place to slow down. Autumn is an opportunity to rethink the space, introducing new textures, deeper colours and thoughtful layers that make it feel more inviting – without starting from scratch.

Start with the bed

The easiest way to shift the mood of a bedroom is through bedding. Swap lighter summer layers for a bedspread or quilt, and add a throw at the foot of the bed. Mixing materials is key: crisp cotton, soft wool and textured fabrics create depth without feeling overdone. Rather than matching everything, look for colours and textures that complement one another: pair the saturated Heritage throw in Rust with the moody Percale bed set in Gray/Black. Underneath, don’t be afraid to add in a vibrant yet timeless pattern to complement the setting.

Bring warmth underfoot

A rug can change the feel of a bedroom in an instant. Beyond adding softness underfoot on colder mornings, it helps anchor the bed and bring the room together. Consider a generous size that extends beyond the sides and foot of the bed, creating a more grounded, considered look. Natural textures or a deeper colour can introduce warmth without overwhelming the space, such as the Grand rug in Milano Green, as seen above. Should you want to bring in the hotel feeling, consider adding a bespoke wall-to-wall carpet tailored to your space.

Rethink the light

With less daylight to work with, window treatments and lighting take on a greater role. Full-length curtains soften the edges of a room, frame the view and bring another layer of texture and character. Pictured are the new Moire curtains in Pistachio green, perfect for a living room seeking a touch of colour. For the bedroom, consider a curtain with a blackout fabric, or a Roman blind to create a new look for your windows.

Make room for colour

Autumn is the perfect time to introduce a saturated and classic colour palette. Burgundy, olive, chocolate brown and muted pink can bring richness to a bedroom, whether introduced through bedding, a rug or smaller accents. Start with one shade you love and build around it, balancing deeper tones with lighter materials and natural finishes. Pictured are the new Alpaca throws and Teddy Velvet cushions, a perfect way of adding a touch of colour.

In short, a seasonal refresh doesn’t require a complete redesign. Often, it’s the smallest adjustments – an extra layer, a change in colour or softer lighting – that make a bedroom feel renewed. The aim is to create a space that feels considered, comfortable and ready for the season ahead.
