GRACE

Classical proportions crossed with modern nerve, ornamented but never overplayed. Call it Sweden's answer to Art Deco: geometric and clean-lined, but warmer. Emerging in 1920s Sweden, the movement made an art of the essentials. The extraordinary is, as ever, in the details, as the curtain rises on Dancing Flower and Matches, two new rugs setting the scene for a new season.

A short video at the Skandia cinema in Stockholm, moving from the stage curtain and empty seats to rugs in the auditorium and foyer. Text reads: NORDIC KNOTS PRESENTS "GRACE". A MODERN-DAY PERIOD PIECE. INSPIRED BY SWEDISH GRACE. BIO SKANDIA, STOCKHOLM. GUNNAR ASPLUND, 1923. THE END.

A CENTURY OF OPENING NIGHTS

The set: Bio Skandia, a 1923 cinema by architect Gunnar Asplund, later celebrated for Stockholm's public library. Midnight ceiling, silk-covered globes suspended like stars, walls carrying the work of a generation's most gifted young artists. A century of opening nights later, starring an ever-evolving collection inspired by Swedish Grace.

An animation of a painting of the Skandia cinema in Stockholm, with orange balconies, a full audience and round lights across a dark ceiling.
